Competition within the P&C mutual company segment remains “intense but static”, AM Best said, as 11 of the top 25 mutual companies by market share shifted in the ratings agency’s 2020 rankings, after two years in which the top 10 positions had held steady.

In its new report, “Covid-19 forges a double-edged sword for US property/casualty mutuals,” AM Best said that the pandemic had a “muted impact” on the mutual insurance segment as a whole, but it had not been unaffected.
