P&C carriers report $5.6bn net underwriting loss over first nine months of 2021: Verisk

Private US P&C carriers booked a $5.6bn net underwriting loss in the first nine months of 2021 as non-catastrophe losses returned to pre-pandemic levels, according to a report by Verisk and the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA).

According to the report, direct losses for personal auto liability spiked by 14.1% in the period, and the industry’s combined ratio deteriorated to 99.5%
