Aon has named Robert O’Connell as global cyber strategy and growth leader and executive managing director within its reinsurance solutions business.
Based in New York, O’Connell will report to Randy Stanco, US strategic business leader for reinsurance solutions at Aon.
Previously, he was CEO of Bermuda-based Cyber Re Limited and Platform Labs, where he specialized in cyber underwriting, data science and analytics.
In conjunction with O’Connell’s appointment at Aon, Platform Labs has agreed to transfer ownership of its intellectual property portfolio, containing multiple cyber-related data science technologies and provisional patent applications registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, to Aon.
O’Connell will work alongside Aon’s cyber analytics leadership team to integrate these technologies and enhance its value proposition, the company said.
“Rob’s extensive experience both in the cyber sector and risk transfer – from primary underwriting to ILS and reinsurance – brings a unique perspective,” Stanco said.
The company said O’Connell will lead the firm in serving its cyber clients and trading partners through “innovative risk structuring,” including using ILS solutions, portfolio advisory services and enhanced risk understanding.
“This will accelerate Aon’s cyber product development and sourcing of capital in this rapidly growing line of business,” Stanco added.
