Arch's operating income jumps 28% as insurance unit swings to profitability

Arch Capital’s operating earnings per share leapt 28% in Q1 to $0.59, ahead of analysts' $0.45 a share consensus estimate, as the company continued to expand top-line amid favorable market conditions.

Arch’s combined ratio improved by 1.3 points to 89.2% and as the company produced an underwriting profit just shy of $200mn, a 24% improvement on Q1 last year.
