Allstate takes $876mn pre-tax August cat losses, with $631mn Ida hit

Allstate will take catastrophe losses of $876mn pre-tax for the month of August, after it forecast $1.4bn of gross claims from Hurricane Ida would be offset by around $769mn of reinsurance recoveries.

The month’s loss tally comprised 11 events costing $843mn, as well as unfavorable prior reserve re-estimates, with the post-tax figure falling to $692mn.
