Argo’s underwriting loss widened to $109mn in the fourth quarter of 2021, from the $33.7mn it reported the year before, driven by a $132mn adverse reserve development, versus a $1.6mn reserve charge a year earlier.
The hefty charge added 27.2 points to the insurer’s loss ratio for Q4 2021, lifting it to 87.1% from 69.8%
