Allstate president of personal property-liability Glenn Shapiro has said that while the company’s P&C combined ratio improved sequentially in the first quarter, inflationary trends and increasing severity pressuring margins.

The executive was speaking after Allstate reported that its first quarter combined ratio increased by 14 points on the year to 97.3%,
