Hurricane Idalia has made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region at Category 3 strength, the strongest storm to hit the region in 125 years.

The hurricane, which made landfall around 08:00EST, has weakened slightly since this morning, with windspeeds falling to just below Cat-4 strength, but all hurricane, tropical storm and storm surge watches and warnings from the early hours remain in place.
