Maiden returns to Q4 profit with net earnings of $47.7mn

Maiden reported fourth-quarter net profit of $47.7mn, compared with a loss of $21.5mn in 2019, as underwriting rebounded and the carrier booked a $38.2mn gain from the repurchase of preference shares in December.

The Bermudian reinsurer, which is in run-off following the termination of its key reinsurance relationship with AmTrust, said that it had made underwriting income of $17.6mn
