A massive fire erupted at a chemical plant of grease and lubricant manufacturer Chemtool Inc in northern Illinois on Monday morning, forcing neighbors living within a one-mile radius to evacuate.

The cause of the blaze, which is expected to engulf the facility for days, is not yet known, but local fire chief Kirk Wilson said the inferno had the potential to become an “environmental nightmare”.
