Arch top line swells 41% in Q2 as underwriting gain nears $400mn

Underwriting profits at Bermuda-based (re)insurer Arch soared to nearly $400mn in the second quarter, powered by a rapid return to profits in the mortgage unit and strong gains in both the insurance and reinsurance segments.

On Wednesday, Arch reported $1.00 a share in operating income, cruising past the $0.85 a share that analysts had predicted.
