Liberty Mutual Insurance on Thursday said chief legal officer Jim Kelleher is retiring on January 1, after nearly four decades with the company. He will be succeeded by Damon Hart, who was named legal chief and executive vice president.

With the promotion, Hart joins the company's executive leadership team and will report to chairman and CEO David Long.

Hart joined the company in 2014 as vice president and assistant general counsel and held successive positions of greater responsibility since.
