Great American Insurance has promoted David Thompson Jr to president and chief operating officer, effective February 1, as Gary Gruber retires after 45 years working at the Cincinnati, Ohio-based carrier.

With the appointment, Thompson will become Great American’s 18th president in the company’s 150-year history.
