WR Berkley improves CR 3 points to 87.6% driven by rates, lower exposure

WR Berkley (WRB) improved its combined ratio by three points to 87.6%, fueled by higher rates that remained above loss cost trends for most of the carrier’s lines of business.

Exposure growth also improved during the first quarter of the year, when the Greenwich-based insurer recorded $274mn in underwriting income, up almost 50% from the same period last year.
