Global reinsurer capital drops by $100bn during 2022: Aon

Global reinsurer capital fell by 15% or $100bn to $575bn during 2022, largely due to unrealised investment losses, with poor earnings and resultant investor pressure influencing a hard market at recent property reinsurance renewals, according to Aon.

The intermediary’s ‘Reinsurance Market Dynamics’ report found that hikes in interest rates, designed to calm inflation, caused a rise in bond yields that widened credit spreads and dented equity values, impacting total returns.
