Lightning-related claims decreased 27% YoY to $1bn in 2022: III

Lightning led to nearly $1bn in insurance claims in 2022, 27% lower than in 2021, according to the Insurance Information Institute (III).

The total value of lightning-caused US homeowners claims was $952mn in 2022, compared to $1.3bn in 2021. About $125mn was attributable to California alone, according to III.
