US wildfire risk lower, except in Pacific Northwest: report

The risk of US wildfire in 2023 is expected to be lower than in recent years, except in the Pacific Northwest, namely Oregon, Washington and Montana, according to analytics firm ZestyAI.

In its annual wildfire season overview, the company noted that areas driving the majority of past wildfire losses, including California’s wildland-urban interface (WUI), are not experiencing drought this year but normal or higher-than-normal levels of moisture.
