Munich Re remained the world’s largest reinsurer in 2022, retaining its position ahead of Swiss Re, according to AM Best’s annual ranking of the top 50 global reinsurers.

The carrier reported reinsurance gross written premiums (GWP) of $51bn in 2022, compared to a figure of $40bn for Swiss Re.
