Idalia forecast to avoid major population centers, but storm surge a risk

As of 17:00 EST, Idalia is projected to make landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida between Steinhatchee and Horseshoe Beach – slightly northwest of morning estimates – and is still tracking east of Gainesville and Jacksonville.

The region has historically been “hurricane-lucky”, according to broker BMS’s Monday tropical update, but that also means projecting insured losses could be challenging.
