M&A activity in the insurance industry decreased 23.4% to 708 announced transactions in 2022, compared with 924 in 2021 – a record year for the sector, MarshBerry reported.

The investment bank said that private equity backed buyers accounted for 525 of the 708 deals, or 74.2%, while independent brokers accounted for 83, or 11.7%,
